Born in the French speaking part of Canada, Natasha Thomas has a DEC in fashion design from Cégep Marie-Victorin as well as a Bachelor’s degree in management & design from UQAM. Natasha also worked as a T.V. stylist, and a costume designer. She has interned & worked in fashion for various companies in Australia and England. Before her brand launched, Thomas was crowned winner of Fashion Pop, which is a juried show that takes place during Montreal’s Festival Mode & Design. Shortly after being crowned, Thomas was discovered by the creative directors of Trusstclub. Both of these events helped her gain momentum to launch the By Thomas brand in 2011. A laureate of the Fondation de la mode de Montréal, this young designer working under the label By Thomas quickly made her way on the list of Montreal fashion designers to watch with the launch of her first collection in 2011 noted for its sense of relaxed and easy glamour. By THOMAS is always seeking the perfect moment, shape and combination, as seen in her Floral Dress. The brand has been praised for the streamlined, sharp silhouettes and muted palettes. The steady use of geometric shapes give a more modern feel to her silhouettes. Her latest projects included furniture making & Récréation, a multi-purpose brand with a playful edge.
During the Montreal Fashion week, Patricia Gajo of fashionmagazine.com stated “I was tempted to reach out and touch almost everything she sent down the runway: the fur vest paired with shimmery boyfriend pants, the merlot-hued coat with pink turtleneck peeping out, the Champagne perfecto with floppy skirt. This is what chic ladies wear to the office.” Thomas’s collection that year revolved around a palette of dusty rose, metallic champagne, beige and black. In 2014, Thomas described her S/S collection as a “poetic tribute to the strength of the modern loving, independent woman. It’s all about being brave and honest. It’s standing up for things you believe in and go for your craziest ambitions. You can see it’s going to be tough, but no guts no glory.” The Floral Dress was presented that year for the Spring/ Summer collection.
